Nutrition Data Calculators

Wine Institute has developed Nutrition Calculators as tools for members to efficiently generate wine data information for menu labeling and wine labeling and advertising.

FOR MENU LABELING

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) required that alcohol beverage suppliers disclose a specific set of nutrition information (total calories, sodium, carbohydrates and sugars) to restaurant chains with 20 more locations for their menus as of May 7, 2018. This version of Wine Institute’s Nutritional Calculator helps members generate information to comply with FDA’s rule.

FOR U.S. LABELING & ADVERTISING

The U.S. Tax and Trade Bureau allows the use of databases and “typical values” or ranges for voluntarily reporting calories on labels and advertisements for wine. This tool eliminates expensive testing of multiple batches of wine and provides nutrition information that is consistent with FDA food labeling regulations.

FOR EU NUTRITION DECLARATION

The EU Nutrition Declaration Calculator is intended as a tool to assist with generating EU-compliant nutrition information. The Calculator is based on information provided in this Guidance Document including Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011. This document is from the Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.
