Call for Applications for the 10th Annual California Green Medal Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards

SAN FRANCISCO — California vineyards and wineries are encouraged to apply for the prestigious 2024 California Green Medal Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards. Applications are now being accepted at greenmedal.org through Jan. 12, 2024, for the 10th annual awards, which are widely recognized throughout the wine industry.

Vineyards and wineries that participate in a sustainability program in California are eligible to apply in four award categories, recognizing outstanding achievement in sustainability:

  • Leader Award, given to the vineyard or winery that demonstrates success and innovation in all of the below three areas of sustainable winegrowing and inspires others.
  • Environment Award, given to the vineyard or winery that best demonstrates Environmental Stewardship through maximized environmental benefits from implementing sustainable practices.
  • Community Award, given to the vineyard or winery that is a Good Neighbor and Employer using the most innovative practices that enhance relations with employees, neighbors and/or communities.
  • Business Award, given to the vineyard or winery that best demonstrates Smart Business  through efficiencies, cost savings and innovation from implementing sustainable practices.

“The California Green Medal awards provide an annual opportunity to showcase vintners and winegrape growers who are deeply committed to environmentally and socially responsible practices,” said Allison Jordan, California Sustainable Winegrowing Association executive director. “We are especially excited to be celebrating the award’s 10th anniversary, and to acknowledge not only this year’s winners, but the nearly 40 wineries and vineyards that have received past awards.”

The 2023 California Green Medal recipients were:  

  • Treasury Americas, Leader Award
  • Tablas Creek Vineyard, Environment Award
  • Cakebread Cellars, Community Award
  • Niner Wine Estates, Business Award

Applications are being accepted through Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

Winners will receive a California Green Medal and be recognized in widely distributed communications, as well as an awards recognition event after April 2024.

About the 2024 California Green Medal Awards  

The 2024 annual California Green Medal marks the award program’s 10-year anniversary. This year, the program’s judging panel consists of wine and sustainability experts including Amy Azzolina, Wine Institute; Anna Brittain, Napa Green; Beth Vukmanic, Vineyard Team; Cyril Penn, Wine Business Monthly; Evan Goldstein, MS, Master the World; InHaeng Jung, Sonoma State University Wine Business Institute; Jennifer Richards, Sonoma County Winegrowers; Lisa Francioni, California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance; Natalie Collins, California Association of Winegrape Growers; Stephanie Bolton, Lodi Winegrape Commission; and Tonya Pitts, One Market Restaurant.The California Green Medal is presented by the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, California Association of Winegrape Growers, Wine Institute, Lodi Winegrape Commission, Napa Green, Napa Valley Vintners, Sonoma County Winegrowers and Vineyard Team.
