EU Nutrition Declaration Calculator

The EU Nutrition Declaration Calculator is intended as a tool to assist with generating EU-compliant nutrition information. The Calculator is based on information provided in this Guidance Document including Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011. This document is from the Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety.

• The Calculator is suitable only for the calculation of nutrition information for wine greater than 7% and no higher than 16% Alcohol by Volume (“ABV”) made from grapes or grape juice. It is not suitable for fortified or botrytized wines or cooking wines to which salt has been added. 
• The Calculator produces results for a 100 milliliter (ml) reference size of wine, as EU regulations require.
• Users have the option of also including an alternate reference size per mL as EU regulations also permit.

Pursuant to Article 31 of Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011, the Calculator uses “generally established and accepted data” for calculation of energy—expressed in Kilojoules (“kJ”) and kilocalories (“kcal”)—and carbohydrates in wine. As described in the Guidance Document, EU regulations also allow for certain tolerances. 

Please note, this Calculator incorporates those allowable tolerances. Users should not alter the results of the Calculator for such tolerances. Similarly, Wine Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee considered the rounding guidelines described in the Guidance Documents when designing this Calculator. Accordingly, Wine Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee strongly recommends that the actual values produced from the Calculator be used in all nutrition declarations, rather than using rounded values.

Wineries are responsible for the accuracy of data for subsequent blends.

The Calculator will be updated as needed or as is required by subsequent regulations.
 

The EU Nutrition Declaration Calculator, U.S. Nutrition Data Calculator for Voluntary Labeling and Advertising, and Nutrition Calculator for U.S. Menu Labeling were developed by Wine Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee and other sources as tools to assist with compliance.
