California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA) has successfully secured grant funding to leverage industry investment and fostered partnerships with regional associations, academic institutions, government agencies and other experts to expand expertise to develop new tools. A searchable database of CSWA’s dozens of resources, including videos, case studies, templates, tools and educational handouts will soon be available.

• Grower & vintner resources for everything from water and air management to federal regulations, as well as economic tools to assess the costs and benefits of adopting specific sustainable practices.
• Educational guides and handouts for growers and vintners covering topics such as winery water management, biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Educational videos highlighting best practices throughout the industry. Many of the videos available have been produced in partnership with PG&E and focus on energy conservation.
• Past editions of the monthly Down to Earth newsletters, profiling vineyards and wineries and highlighting industry best practices.
• Case studies provides practical examples of sustainable practices being implemented across the state.

Beginning in 2004, CSWA reports on the level of adoption of sustainable winegrowing practices in California every five years. The next report is planned for release in 2025. These full sustainability reports show the aggregated scores for all growers and vintners who participate in the self-assessment program for each of the sustainability practices covered in the Code workbook and are an important way to communicate current status of adoption of practices with the industry and stakeholders.

CSWA collaborates with regional grower and vintner organizations throughout the state to develop and facilitate educational events that target the most challenging areas in specific regions as part of the industry’s dedication to on-going improvement. Targeted education events such as workshops, webinars, field days and seminars can support their efforts in making appropriate changes in their vineyard or winery. FOR GROWERS & VINTNERS

To participate in the Sustainable Winegrowing Program, complete an evaluation of your vineyard and/or winery options using the Code of Sustainable Winegrowing. Attend an event and access dozens of educational resources (e.g., videos, tools, etc.); join a webinar or attend a workshop or access dozens of educational videos, tools and resources; and consider seeking Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing accreditation for your vineyard, winery and/or wines.
