Maine Packaging Stewardship Program Hits Unexpected Delay
Maine’s packaging stewardship program has hit a significant delay after no organizations submitted proposals to manage the state’s new extended producer responsibility program by the August 18 deadline.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection must now determine how to move forward. If statutory changes are needed before another round of proposals can be issued, action may have to wait until the Legislature reconvenes in January 2027. Wine Institute’s State Relations Team will continue monitoring Maine and other developing state EPR programs for potential impacts on wineries.
