CAA Responds to Wine Institute Question on 2023 California EPR Program Baseline Reporting

Wine Institute is happy to report that the Circular Action Alliance (CAA), the professional responsibility organization selected to manage the EPR program in California, has responded to the question as to whether CRV bottles and cartons should be included in the 2023 baseline data reporting for the SB 54 EPR for Packaging. CAA informs Wine Institute that CRV containers, bottles and cartons, SHOULD NOT be included in that 2023 baseline data reporting. This is welcome news. See below:

Dear Anna,

Thank you for your patience. I have receiving the following update and confirmation from our technical services team:

CRV containers themselves are excluded as covered material, and any other packaging other than the bottles, labels and closures, would need to be reported to CAA both for the 2023 baseline report and going forward. The secondary and tertiary packaging associated with CRV containers supply are not excluded.

I apologize for the incorrect information previously provided and thank you for the follow up to clarify. We are ensuring that this information is communicated to all on our service team. Please let me know if I can help assist with anything else.

Sincerely,
Sarah
