Industrial Storm Water Permit

Industrial Storm Water Permit

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Storm Water Industrial General Permit (IGP) regulates storm water runoff from certain industrial facilities, including wineries, and imposes additional regulatory compliance requirements.

The permit requires all wineries with stormwater runoff that can reach the Waters of the State to take some action, which can range from certifying that the permit does not apply, to obtaining the permit and complying with the requirements. If you are able to capture all stormwater on your site, you may not need to apply for the permit, but could be asked by the Water Board to provide a technical engineering report at a later date that demonstrates your assertion.

Wine Institute’s 2015 webinar contains important information regarding the IGP and compliance requirements for wineries.
