Wine Institute Urges Transparency and Rigor in U.S. Dietary Guidelines

I wanted to share Wine Institute’s recent submission to the public comment period on the ICCPUD Study on Alcohol Intake and Health and the NASEM Review of Evidence on Alcohol and Health. These two reports will inform the 2025 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs).

I urge you to take the time to read our comments in order to fully understand the issues at hand and the environment that we are navigating.

In our comments, we continue to make the case that the ICCPUD process was fatally flawed, while the NASEM report adhered to the transparency and rigor required for the DGAs. Over 300 comments expressing a wide range of views were submitted. If interested, you can see the public comments here.

We are sharing our comments and meeting with key stakeholders in the new administration and Congress to highlight the distinction between the two documents. Once the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture have reviewed the public input, they will begin the process of drafting the alcohol information and tions for the 2025 DGAs. The timing of this process is not clear at this point.

We will continue to share information with you on this important topic.
