Governor Issues Order Closing Tasting Rooms in 19 Counties

Governor Newsom issued an order mandating that most indoor recreational activities, including wine tastings, must cease in 19 California counties. Wineries in these counties may continue to conduct tastings in outdoor spaces provided the county does not issue a more restrictive order, and must comply with the reopening guidelines for “restaurants, bars, and wineries”, and adhere to the recent mandatory face covering guidance.

Wine Institute members should continue to strictly follow all federal, state, and county health and safety guidance. The Governor also announced that an enforcement of the state level health and safety guidance will be conducted through seven state agencies, including the ABC and Cal/OSHA.

For wineries in these counties seeking to expand their outdoor tasting areas, ABC has created a COVID-19 Temporary Catering Authorization (Form 218 CV19), allowing a winery to temporarily expand their licensed footprint.
