Demonstrate Outstanding Sustainable Practices – Apply for Green Medal Awards

Applications are being accepted through Feb. 4, 2022, for the annual California Green Medal Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards. Now in its eighth year, the awards provide an opportunity for California vintners and grape growers to demonstrate their commitment to outstanding sustainable practices. In addition to the prestige of the awards, past recipients have found other benefits including:

• Credibility — use of the California Green Medal logo in marketing materials, email signatures, websites, packaging and displaying the medal in tasting rooms.
• Content — leverage a professionally produced winner video to share with audiences across social media, websites, direct mail, etc.
• Recognition — media attention, invitations to speak on panels, award ceremonies.

Wineries and vineyards are invited to apply to four categories:

• Environment Award demonstrating maximized environmental benefit.
• Community Award showing enhanced relations with employees, neighbors and/or communities.
• Business Award demonstrating efficiencies and cost savings.
• Leader Award signifying multiple objectives of environment, economic and social goals and sustainability integrated into the overall business.

Last year’s winners who are leaders in implementing sustainable practices were Shannon Ridge Family of Wines (Environment), Boisset Collection (Community), Trinchero Family Estates (Business) and O’Neill Vintners & Distillers (Leader). View all of the past winners making a meaningful impact.

• Highlight a breadth of practices, projects or initiatives from the past year to three years, featuring major accomplishments and measurable results.
• Provide compelling supporting documentation, such as marketing materials, media coverage, social media and letters of recommendation.
• Prior applicants that did not receive a Green Medal in the past three years are encouraged to update responses and reapply, as the application is largely the same.
