U.S. Nutrition Data Calculator for Voluntary Labeling & Advertising

The Nutrition Data Calculator (the Calculator) for Voluntary Labeling and Advertising is intended as a tool to generate TTB-compliant nutrition information as outlined in TTB Procedure 2020-1, Ruling 2020-1, Ruling 2013-2 and Ruling 2004-1.

The Calculator is suitable only for the calculation of serving facts for wine greater than 7% Alcohol by Volume (“A.B.V.”) made from grapes or grape juice. It is not suitable for fortified or botrytized wines. The Calculator produces results only for a 750 ml. container of wine and assumes a standard serving of 5oz (148 ml). Calculations to adjust for size will be required if you use the tool for a container size other than 750 ml.

The Calculator uses “Typical Values charts” for calculation of calories and carbohydrates in wine. TTB allows a tolerance of 20% for understatement of Calories and Carbohydrates. Overstatements of the Calorie and Carbohydrate value “…are acceptable as long as the actual content…is within a reasonable range of the labeled or advertised amount (within good manufacturing practice limitations).” (TTB Ruling 2020-1). Please note, this calculator incorporates the TTB tolerances stated above. Users should not alter the results of the calculator for such tolerances.

TTB permits the labeled calorie value to be rounded to the nearest 5-calorie increment for per-serving amounts up to 50 calories or 10-calorie increment for per-serving amounts above 50 calories, provided the labeled value stays within the tolerances stated above. Wine Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee recommends that the actual values produced from the Calculator be used in all serving facts declarations, rather than using rounded values. Wineries are responsible for the accuracy of data for subsequent blends.

The Calculator will be updated as needed or as is required by subsequent TTB Rulings. Current version: TTB Nutrition Calculator Version 1.0 (Nov. 2020).
