Judge Information Judges must take a qualifying exam and include wine industry representatives, wine writers, enologists, winemakers, restaurateurs, sommeliers and educators. Wines are entered judged in 10 geographical groupings and on a regional basis, based upon where the grapes are grown.

Entry Requirements The competition is open to all California wineries producing less than 20,000 cases total production annually and to all Sierra Foothills wineries. The exception to this requirement is the Rhone category, which accepts commercial wines from Rhone Varietal Grapes grown and produced anywhere in the world, by any size commercial winery.

Entry Requirements Wine classes include varietals, blends and generic wines from any grape or fruit type. They include sparkling, dessert, fortified and fruit wines. Distilled products allowed include brandy, grappa and eau de vie. Fruit-flavored wines are allowed, but must be specifically identified as flavored.
