Specialty Crop & Export Promotion Funding

Specialty Crop & Export Promotion Funding

Wine is one of the country’s most highly value-added agricultural products and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is a critical partner for our industry. USDA provides funding for a number of industry initiatives that support our strategic growth.

For many years Wine Institute has advocated in Congress for adequate funding of these programs in each five-year Farm Bill. Whether it is specialty crop research to help deal with a crisis such as Pierce’s Disease or export promotion funds, this support is essential for the long-term health of our industry.

Wine Institute is a long-time participant in USDA’s Market Access Program (MAP) which provides matching financial support to develop existing and new foreign export markets for US wines. These funds are paired with winery marketing funds to build the California wine brand around the world.
