Technical Barriers to Trade

Technical Barriers to Trade

Wine Institute drives strategies to prevent regulatory burdens for wine exporters before they start. Wineries should not be overwhelmed with export certificates, labeling requirements, and regulations that are not science-based. We regularly respond to countries when they change laws and regulations that affect the wine trade. As an example, Wine Institute provided comments to South Korea regarding a recycling law. Also, we are grateful for the support of the U.S. trade agencies, such as the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Foreign Agriculture Service (USDA), the International Trade Administration (Commerce) and the International Affairs Division of TTB. Yearly we provide them an update on our export policy priorities called the “National Trade Estimate.”
