Help for “Essential” Employees on the Road

In light of recent reports that law enforcement in some areas of the state are stopping farmworkers who are commuting to work and questioning them on why they are not sheltered at home, we are sharing useful tools to help workers travel to and from work without incident.

California Association of Winegrape Growers’ (CAWG) said “law enforcement in some areas of the state has stopped farmworkers who are commuting to work and questioned them on why they are not sheltered at home. This is especially of concern on the Central Coast where San Luis Obispo County has created a hotline for the public to report violations of the stay-at-home order.”

Below are templates for two tools to share with workers:

  • A bumper sticker for the vehicle, developed by CAWG, identifies the worker as “essential” under the stay-at-home order. A standard bumper sticker size is 3” x 11.5” ( PDF / JPEG )
  • Language that can be placed on company letterhead that identifies your employee as an “essential” worker and lists a contact for employment verification. ( Verification Card Language from Wine Institute )
