Governor Newsom’s Executive Orders on Workers’ Compensation & Property Tax Penalties

On May 6, Governor Newsom issued two Executive Orders regarding worker’s compensation and property tax penalties. The Workers Compensation Executive Order is in effect from March 19 to June 5 and applies to any employee working outside of the home who tests positive for COVID-19 or receives a diagnosis that is later confirmed. The Property Tax Penalties Executive Order mandates tax collectors to waive penalties, costs and interest on delinquent property tax payments through May 6, 2021 if certain conditions are met. The Order only applies to commercial property owned by a taxpayer that qualifies as a small business under the Small Business Administration’s Regulations.
