Consumer Privacy Act Reminder

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) of 2018 applies to many wineries and other for-profit entities that do online business in California. In general, the CCPA gives consumers more control over the personal information that businesses collect about them and provides consumers with rights pertaining to collection and use of their personal information (e.g., rights to know, delete, or opt-out of selling). To demonstrate enforcement efforts, the California Attorney General (AG) recently announced a $1.2 million settlement with Sephora for its alleged violations of the CCPA (read the press release). The CCPA’s notice and cure provision, which requires businesses to receive notice of CCPA violations and gives them an opportunity to fix them before the state AG can hold them accountable, will expire on January 1, 2023. Accordingly, we remind members that we have CCPA resources and guidance available in our online Member Hub.
