If you are a licensed winegrower, or you own or lease a bonded winery or a bonded wine cellar in California and are producing or selling wine in the state, you are eligible to become a Wine Institute member.

In addition to the Membership Application, Members must submit a Dues Computation Form. Members who own or lease more than one bonded winery or permit number must pay dues for each entity. Dues may be paid collectively or individually on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. For members producing less than 6,000 gallons per year, the annual minimum dues are $300.
For members producing 6,000 or more gallons per year, Formula A, Formula B or a combination of the two methods may be used to calculate dues:
- Formula A (Sales) = 0.24% of calendar-year gross dollar sales of wine produced or bottled in California, less excise taxes and sales to other Wine Institute members.
- Formula B (Gallons) = 6.12 cents per gallon of total calendar-year gallons sold of wine produced or bottled in California, less gallons sold to other to other Wine Institute members. (This rate is indexed to inflation.)
Wine produced or bottled in California that derives any portion of its volume from grapes grown in California is subject to dues. Additionally, Members are allowed to use either formula for each brand or SKU (stock-keeping unit).
